Black John

While this book definitely redeemed John and had me forgiving him for his behavior in [b:Dex in Blue|15832828|Dex in Blue (Johnnies, #2)|Amy Lane|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1345208080s/15832828.jpg|21568953], I found myself struggling with the relationship part of the story. I liked both John and Galen, and understood the fast friendship born out of shared circumstances, but it took me a long time to get invested in them as a couple. I did want them together and happy by the end of the story, and I was completely on board with the way things played out, I just felt like I was missing something.
I don't want to sound like I didn't like the story, because I did. The book was well written and Tory and John's story was incredibly sad and heartbreaking. I liked seeing John reconnecting with his friends and coming to an understanding of himself. Galen was also a great character and I would love to see more of him in any future books.
I am wondering if my love of the first two books has just set the bar too high and is coloring my view of the past two books (although I think Bobby and Reg would make an interesting pair). Overall it was a good and necessary story in the Johnnies series, but I'm looking forward to the next book (if there is one) staying back in California, at the studio and with the guys as they move onto the next phase of their stories.
