What I learned from getting through less than half of this awful book and then passing it on was that I don't like books in first-person narrative about privileged women with a woe is me attitude. The whining and self-pity of this woman, who is on a fully funded trip to discover herself, grated on me so much I dreaded having to keep going back to this book. So I stopped, as did about 1/3 of the book group I was reading it for.
